Announcing my new project27 Mar 2017 | by Scott Nesbitt
Some of you might remember my now-defunct newsletter News from Somewhere. I published it fortnighly for a little over a year before pulling the plug. That was hard to do, but there were a number of reasons for that. Mainly, having to do other work to subsidize the newsletter which sapped the time and energy I needed to maintain it.
After a lot of thought and planning, I’ve revived News from Somewhere on Patreon on Patreon.
By publishing via Patreon, I’m hoping to entertain and inform and occasionally annoy my patrons with essays, running between 800 and 2,000 words, published every two weeks. The topics of those essays will vary. I’ll talk about technology, travel, culture, politics, and just about anything else that captures my imagination.
Why the wide range of topics? A friend of mine once said that I have a roaming mind. He meant that as a compliment (at least I think he did!). A lot interests me, and what grips my attention will vary from week to week. When an idea has a grip on my attention, I tend to think deeply about it. And I often try to write about it.
If this is the first time you’ve read any of my work, I hope you’ll be pleasantly surprised. My take on just about everything is slightly different from what you read online or in print. With my writing, I hope to take you places that you might not have considered going.
If you were one of the fives of subscribers to my newsletter, I plan to continue where I left off when I sent the newsletter to the digital glue factory in June, 2016. You might recognize some of the essays that I’ll be publishing here. They won’t be the same ones that you read. In the interim, I’ve rethought and rewritten them. I’ve expanded upon them with new information and new thoughts.
My Patreon project isn’t just about writing essays. I’ll also be sending my patrons a weekly newsletter that complements and supplements the essays that I publish. You’ll get links, analysis, and reviews.
On top of that, I’m hoping to reach the point where I can donate 10% of what I earn to a cause or organization that I support.
